3 Things Your Luxury Landscape Designer Wishes You Knew

At Artisan Home Resorts, we’re a luxury landscape designer who also install pools, spas, outdoor kitchens, wine cellars, and other design elements that turn your backyard into a home resort.

After 35 years in the industry, we know the ins and outs of the planning, permitting, and construction process for any outdoor landscape and pool redesign. We have extensive experience in building hillside pools in the Bay Area as well as making the most out of small lots.

But we have learned that when the client is better informed about the design and build process, it’s a more enjoyable experience which goes smoother for everyone.

So here are three things your luxury landscape designer wishes you to know before we get started:

1. Permitting Process

The permitting process has become much more complicated and drawn out in every jurisdiction in California. This can be the most complex part of the job — planning, approval, and getting the permit. Whether you’re building a pool in the Bay Area or elsewhere in the country, the process just isn’t user-friendly, unfortunately. Planning, permitting and approval could take as long as actually building the entire project.

Because of the difficulty of this process, Artisan Home Resorts has partnered up with a highly-qualified engineering firm that assists with streamlining the details of the permitting process. Our goal is to move the process from approval to construction as quickly as possible.

2. Realistic Timeline

The best time to start planning for a fun-filled summer with your new luxury landscape design is … the summer before.

As much as we’d love to design and break ground on your pool in mid-December for the following summer, it’s just not feasible because of the length of time required for the permitting process. From the start of planning to finishing the project, six months to a year is a realistic timeline depending on your location.

The projects that we build  provide wonderful, relaxing environments that our clients enjoy for decades. A complete luxury landscape design or redesign is almost as large a project as building the home itself.

From that perspective, six months to a year is relatively short in the long run. When building a new landscape, patience is key… but it will pay off when you’re relaxing in your backyard oasis.

3. Maintenance is Vital

Once your landscape and pool are complete, maintenance is key to enjoying your investment for a very long time. We’ll get you started with a vetted company who will ensure that your chemicals and water levels are balanced for the first 30 days.

After that, it’s vital to maintain your pool if you don’t want to lose the enjoyment of your pool while repairs are being made. A pool service company will regularly check and adjust your pool chemical levels and we can recommend our preferred providers in the Bay Area.

In addition to regular pool maintenance and servicing, we recommend a chemical automation and internet monitoring system for a hands-off approach that works 24/7.

With continual monitoring and consistent maintenance, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and energy — and get to enjoy the perks of your new pool for many years to come.
